Overview of unlockable Bootloader: Bootloader Unlock Wall of Shame
Android developer verification begins regional enforcement on September 30, 2026 for Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, with global expansion in 2027 and beyond. The requirement applies to certified Android devices and can affect third-party app stores and direct APK installs when an app is not registered by a verified developer.
Open Android projects remain important because device certification, bootloader unlockability, ADB access, and alternative OS support determine how much control users keep over app installation and recovery paths. When evaluating a device or ROM, check whether it preserves bootloader unlock, ADB sideloading, third-party store installation, and documented rollback or recovery options.
