AgentVM.app is a Mac app for running AI coding agents in virtual machines instead of on your Mac. This is the first announcement here, so it starts with what the app is.

What it is

An agent that runs on your Mac can reach everything your account can. AgentVM puts the agent in a box: a virtual machine that sees only the project folder you share and reaches only the hosts you allow.

• Images and boxes. An image is a template, a macOS or Linux system with your tools in it. A box is a working copy of an image, made in seconds, and it is what runs.
• The app and the tools. AgentVM.app is the window onto the agent-vm command line tools. It guides you from nothing to a first box, then shows what exists and what runs, with the everyday actions one or two clicks away. It installs and updates agent-vm for you.
• Where agents run. In Terminal with avm, or in Cadabra. The app keeps no copy of what agent-vm knows, so what you do there shows up here.
• No Full Disk Access on your Mac. The app neither needs nor asks for it.

New in 1.1

• Linux images and boxes beside macOS ones. A first image is built in minutes from Debian 13, with no macOS restore file to download, and a Linux box starts in seconds.
• Logs you can find. Every box, image and job says where its logs are, and the logs of a deleted box are kept for 30 days.
• Rename a box or an image from its pane.
• Get started no longer needs a macOS download: the first image can be a Linux one.

Getting it

• Download AgentVM_1.1.zip from the releases page, open it, and move AgentVM.app to the Applications folder.
• It needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 27 or later.
