How do I generate an API key for OpenMeter after the Kong acquisition? #4659
|
I’m developing a project and I was using a self-hosted OpenMeter setup. However, I keep running into issues, so I decided to migrate to OpenMeter Cloud / Kong Konnect Metering & Billing. The existing data is not important because the project is still in development. As far as I understand, Kong acquired OpenMeter, so I now need to get an API key through the Kong dashboard. However, the dashboard and documentation feel quite confusing, and I haven’t been able to figure out exactly where or how to create the API key. Could someone please explain step by step how I can generate the correct API key for using the OpenMeter / Metering & Billing API through Kong Konnect? Any guidance would be appreciated. |

Hi, for the Konnect Metering & Billing deployment the simplest solution is to use a KPAT (you can click the link here to generate over the UI https://developer.konghq.com/kongctl/authentication/#configured-access-token). |

Hi @berkbirkan, as an alternative, you can use system accounts: Organization > System accounts, then create a new System Account with metering roles assigned to it: |
