Residual is oscillatng for a supersonic flow over a cylinder

Hello guys,

I am trying to do a supersonic simulation using SU2 over a cylinder. The simulation does generate a normal shock as expected however the flow goes to hypersonic speeds at the back of the model also, the residual is oscillating and non-converging. Which I am not sure why. I would appreciate it if anyone could explain it or show me how to fix it. The SU2 version is (version: '8.0.1 "Harrier"').
When MUSL is off then the analysis is converging but when I use the MUSL then the analysis isn't converging.

Mach distribution is very oscillating.

Your solution converges when you switch MUSCL off? Then the solution is to switch MUSCL off. MUSCL does not converge very well, but you could play with CFL, limiters, etc. and try to make it converge.

Also, the mesh you are using is too coarse to capture all the flow physics, you need to refine it where gradients are large. So around the sphere and in the wake. You can also modify the geometry a bit, place the farfield closer to the cylinder and modify the wake region to capture the wake properly:

Yeah, the analysis indeed converges when the MUSCL is off and yes I will try to refine the mesh to capture a better physical flow field.
