Goal

Refs AND-1658

Brings the handling of notification.channel_partial_updated for grouped channel lists from v6 (#6835) to develop, with the same public API and behaviour.

Implementation

  • New public NotificationChannelPartialUpdatedEvent and EventType.NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_PARTIAL_UPDATED.
  • The generated NotificationChannelPartialUpdatedEvent and ChannelPartialUpdateResponse models are vendored from the backend spec, with event-created-at-type=exact-date like the other events.
  • ChannelPartialUpdateResponseAdapter collects the custom fields at the top level of channel (v1) and merges a nested custom (v2), like ChannelMemberPartialResponseAdapter.
  • mergePartialUpdate applies only the fields the event carries, including disabled. It keeps the server fields listed in ChannelResponseAdapter and replaces the custom part of extraData.
  • The merge is used in both channel event handlers, offline storage and the grouped unread counts. For the unread counts, a channel with no active state (the usual case for this event) takes its old group and unread state from the stored channel.
  • Grouped lists remove a channel that no longer matches its tab. The cutoff is checked only for channels in the list; for any other channel only the group is checked, and the list checks the cutoff after the watch.
  • A channel that now matches is watched when the group has no more pages or when its known sort key places it within the loaded channels, and is not added when the watch returns it hidden.
  • Known limit: without a local copy the sort key is a lower bound (no last_message_at in the event), so a channel with recent activity can be skipped until the next refresh. Follow-up in AND-1672, with the transformer change and the v6 backport.
  • The ChannelTransformer is applied to the event's channel.

Testing

Needs an app with grouped tabs, one with a query_timestamp filter.

  1. Load the tabs. From the server, change the group of a channel that is loaded in one tab. It moves to the other tab without a new grouped query.
  2. Change the group of a recent channel that is not loaded to a tab you have open. It is watched and appears in that tab.
  3. Do the same for an old channel below the loaded pages. It is not watched, and it appears when its page loads.
  4. Remove the group of a loaded channel. It leaves its tab.
  5. Hide a channel for the current user, then change its group from the server. It does not come back.

Validation that ran: ./gradlew spotlessApply detekt apiDump, then spotlessCheck apiCheck testDebugUnitTest (all modules), plus a mutation check on the adapter registration.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added support for partial channel update events, keeping channel details current without replacing fields that aren’t included in an update.
    • Grouped channel lists now reflect partial updates, including changes to group membership, unread counts, and channel visibility.

📝 Walkthrough

The client now parses and maps notification.channel_partial_updated events to a public domain event. Channel handlers merge partial channel data with existing state, and offline storage does not store the incomplete event channel when no current channel exists. Grouped query handling updates channel eligibility and unread counts for partial updates.

New fields arrive in a partial gleam.
I fold them in, keep what should stay,
And watch the grouped counts shift their way.
Then hop through tests beneath the moon.

Register the coroutine extension with Jupiter.

@get:Rule is not processed for this Jupiter test class, so TestCoroutineRule.starting does not install the shared test dispatchers. The current TestCall.await() returns immediately, so this does not establish current flakiness. Use TestCoroutineExtension to keep the test dispatcher contract correct.

Parse notification.channel_partial_updated with the generated models. The event's channel is merged into the local channel (state, offline storage and grouped unread counts) instead of replacing it. Grouped lists remove a channel that no longer matches its tab, and watch a channel that now matches when it can show within the loaded channels. A watched channel that is hidden is not added.
JUnit 5 does not apply JUnit 4 rules, and the tests do not use it.
…lsLogic

Tests that mock QueryChannelsLogic drop its coverage for later tests in the same JVM. The check is a pure function of the query state, so it now lives in a top-level function, and the tests also cover a partial channel without name, image or team and a missing channel data.
…hannels that are not loaded

A stored copy's last activity can be stale, so a partial update on a channel that is not in the list only checks its group, and the list checks the cutoff after the watch. The group badge delta takes the old group and unread state from the stored channel when the channel has no active state, which is the usual case for this event.

Thanks! The stale-copy and badge fixes look good, and AND-1672 covers the rest.
