A team that moves from Prisma or Drizzle has no map to effect-orm. It cannot see quickly which operations exist today and which are still open.

Closes #91.

Changes

• New guide docs/coming-from-drizzle-prisma.md. A table maps the common Prisma and Drizzle operations to effect-orm: findUnique / findFirst / findMany, include, _count, some / none / every, create / createMany / upsert, update / updateMany, delete, transactions, raw SQL, FOR UPDATE, unique violations, cursor pagination, case-insensitive search, JSON fields, defaults, @updatedAt, @map, seeding, migrations, pull and drift.
• Where main has the operation, the table names it. Where only an open PR has it, the cell says "planned: #N" and gives today's workaround. The guide has no example for a planned API.
• One checked program, coming-from-prisma.ts, runs most of the table on PGlite with requireTenantScope on. check-doc-examples.mjs now asserts its full result.
• A section "What is different by design": Effect services and Layers, typed errors, Schema-decoded rows, the tenant scope proof.
• A CAFE Worker sketch: cafe-worker.ts is a fetch handler that builds a Database for each request. cafe-worker-local.ts runs it on PGlite with no network, and the doc check asserts its responses (rows for one org, 401 with no org). The Hyperdrive wiring with @effect/sql-pg is shown as an unchecked block.
• Links from docs/README.md and README.md. One patch changeset.

Left out

• D1, Durable Object SQLite, Alchemy alchemy.run.ts and Foldkit UI. D1 and DO wait for the SQLite / D1 dialect (feat: add SQLite and Cloudflare D1 query dialects #49). The Alchemy stack and UI come with that example, so one stack shows the whole CAFE layout.
• The Hyperdrive block is not typechecked: @effect/sql-pg and the Workers types are not dependencies of this package, and I did not add dev dependencies for one snippet.
• No example for APIs from open PRs (feat(database): runOne, runOption and runNonEmpty cardinality helpers #92, feat(database): layerTest, a Database with no server for unit tests #93, feat(database): typed constraint violations across dialects #95, feat(database): batch lookups by key with findById and findAllBy #105, feat(kit): verify --schema checks the table definitions against a live database #107–feat(database): relation filters some/none/every and relation counts #116). When one merges, its row can change from "planned" to the API, with a line in the program.

Validation

• bun run build: ok.
• bun run typecheck: ok.
• bunx vitest run --testTimeout=60000 --hookTimeout=60000 against ClickHouse 26.8.2.7: 60 files, 1034 tests passed, 0 skipped.
• node scripts/check-doc-citations.mjs: ok (26 files).
• node scripts/check-exports-documented.mjs: ok (287 /clickhouse, 205 /postgres exports).
• node scripts/check-doc-examples.mjs: ok (24 files typechecked, behavior checks passed, including the two new examples).
• bun scripts/check-package.ts: ok.
• Upstream CI for fork PRs waits for a maintainer to approve the run.

Changes

• Merged origin/main with no conflicts.
• Since this was written, main gained the SQLite and D1 dialects (feat: SQLite and Cloudflare D1 query dialects (#49, fuzzed) #119, feat(sqlite): table DDL — columns, keys, indexes (#50, reviewed) #120, feat(sqlite): generate migrations (#51, fuzzed) #121). The guide said Postgres is "the one dialect here with transactions and RETURNING" and that D1 "waits for feat: add SQLite and Cloudflare D1 query dialects #49", which feat: SQLite and Cloudflare D1 query dialects (#49, fuzzed) #119 superseded. I updated:
  • the intro, which now names /sqlite and links docs/sqlite.md;
  • the table rows that differ on SQLite/D1. D1: Db.transaction fails with TransactionUnsupported, and there is no wrapper for D1's batch. SQLite: no row locks, no ilike, and like ignores ASCII case. SQLite.table declares keys and indexes but no foreign keys. SQLite migrations are generate only, applied by a drizzle-kit-compatible tool. pull is ClickHouse only;
  • the SqlClient list (@effect/sql-sqlite-node, @effect/sql-d1);
  • the CAFE section, which now points at the D1 setup in docs/sqlite.md instead of a pending PR. Durable Object SQLite, Alchemy and Foldkit are listed as not covered yet.
• The "mocked client" row no longer claims Drizzle has nothing for it; I could not back that claim. The other Drizzle/Prisma cells are unchanged.
• I checked the unchecked Hyperdrive block against the published @effect/sql-pg@4.0.6 types: PgClient.layer takes url?: Redacted, as the snippet uses.
• I kept the patch changeset, because docs/ ships in the npm package (files).
• Rows for feat(insert): excluded and excludedAll for onConflictDoUpdate set #112 (excluded) and feat: portable text search with contains, startsWith and endsWith #114 (contains) still say "planned". Update them after whichever merges first.

Verification

• bun run build and bun run typecheck pass.
• bun run test against live ClickHouse 26.8: 73 files and 1430 tests pass. check-doc-examples.mjs typechecked 29 files, and its behavior assertions for coming-from-prisma.ts and cafe-worker-local.ts pass. Doc citations and the export catalog pass.
• FUZZ_SCALE=0.3 bunx vitest run tests/fuzz: 9 files and 269 tests pass.
