Summary

  • CIP-0005: drop pylab / %pylab inline / %matplotlib inline in the GPy tutorials; use matplotlib.pyplot as plt (and explicit numpy where %pylab had been providing it).
  • CIP-0006: first code cell on each executable tutorial imports GPy if present, otherwise pip install gpy[plotting]>=1.15.0. Extra ensure lines for pods, seaborn, and ipywidgets where those notebooks already need them. index and config unchanged; climin is not auto-installed.

Test plan

  • Local /opt/anaconda3/envs/py311/bin/python scripts/run_gpy_tutorials.py — 19 passed, 0 skipped (GPy 1.15.0)
  • GitHub Actions execute green against gpy[plotting]==1.15.0
  • GitHub Actions execute-latest green
  • After merge, open one Colab badge and run the first cell on a runtime without GPy

CIP-0005 replaces pylab in the GPy tutorials; CIP-0006 installs GPy
from the notebook when the import is missing (Colab).
Replace pylab with pyplot, remove matplotlib inline magics, and add a
first-cell import-or-pip check so Colab can run the tutorials.
All 19 GPy tutorials passed against GPy 1.15.0.
