Summary

CustomFishing fish almost never stacked, and neither did the filets cut from them. Two things kept equal fish apart:

  • Whole fish were built on a clone of the caught CustomFishing item, so each kept CustomFishing's own exact size tag (CustomFishing.size, a float).
  • Cooking stamps the rounded size (cooking:catch_size_cm) on whole fish and on the portions cut from them. Live sizes range widely (Tuna 30–200 cm), and the size has no effect: SeafoodCutting.plan always gives one portion and the size isn't shown anywhere.

Changes:

  • Fish: whole fish are now built on a fresh stack that keeps only the catch's name, item name, custom model data and item model. They are marked cooking:clean_catch. The TLibs item scan (LegacyFishScan) clears the CustomFishing data from whole fish built by older versions. It does not do this while the fish is held, so eating isn't interrupted, and it covers every fish material.
  • Stack comparison: catch size and the marker no longer keep otherwise equal foods apart (ConversionManager.sameApartFromAging). Fish of one kind and quality now stack whatever their size. Different star ratings still stack separately.
  • Double chests: opening a large chest now merges foods that aged apart, as a single chest already did. onOpen used to return early for DoubleChest holders.
  • Adding food: InventoryAdder (pickups, harvests, etc.) now keeps the older copy's data, so picking up older food onto a fresher stack no longer makes the stack fresher.
  • Double-click: when food that aged apart is present, double-click now gathers it in vanilla's slot order: the container or crafting grid, then the armour slots (player view), storage, the hotbar and the off-hand, part stacks before full ones. When there are only exact copies, vanilla handles the double-click as before.

Documentation impact

Contract

  • Affected behaviour: stacking of Cooking whole fish and portions. Chest-open merging in double chests. Food added through InventoryAdder. Double-click gathering in player inventories and storage containers.
  • Tests: mvn -B -o verify gave 1219 tests with 0 failures, errors and skips, and the coverage gate (0 missed lines) passed. MockBukkit has no custom model data or item model components, so the fishing tests stub copyLook; copyLook itself is tested with Mockito metas.
  • Dev (TFMCDev01) bot test, ~/fishstack-test/test.js. On v0.5.1 it passed 4 of 10 checks: the converted tuna kept CustomFishing data (sizes 63 and 150) and didn't stack. On this build:
    • CustomFishing tuna (customfishing items give) convert without CustomFishing data, marked clean, keeping model 50001 and the gradient name.
    • A copy with another catch size, picked up, stacked onto the fish (x2, one slot).
    • An old-style fish (CustomFishing data, no marker) was cleaned by the scan and kept its Cooking data. A held one was left alone until it was put away.
    • The "kept the older age" check doesn't apply here, because whole fish have no freshness track; unit tests cover it with beef.
    • No Cooking errors in the log.
    • Clicks, double-click and chest opens can't be bot-tested, because character-less bots are frozen in the selection room. Unit tests cover those.
  • Player wiki (ProvinceSystem /wiki/cooking): no change.

Notes

  • Existing fish keep their sizes. When stacks merge, the stack takes the size of the copy it keeps, which is harmless because size affects nothing.
  • Old fish on the ground, or inside bundles and shulkers, are cleaned once they're scanned in a player inventory or opened container.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Whole fish were built on a clone of the caught CustomFishing item, so each
kept CustomFishing's own exact size, and Cooking's catch size also kept
equal fish (and their filets) apart. Catch size never changes the yield.

- Build whole fish on a fresh stack with only the catch's name and model,
marked cooking:clean_catch; the item scan clears CustomFishing data from
fish built before (not while held).
- Catch size and the marker no longer keep equal foods apart.
- Opening a double chest merges aged foods like a single chest.
- Adding food to a stack keeps the older copy's age.
- Double-click gathers food that aged apart, in vanilla's slot order.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Food of the same type and quality can stack despite differences in freshness or catch size. Double-click collection gathers compatible food from eligible inventory slots, including crafting grids, prioritising partial stacks and retaining the oldest freshness.
    • Supported whole fish retain their appearance and catch size when converted into cooking ingredients.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Inventory merges preserve the older food’s freshness data, including in double chests. Legacy whole fish are handled without losing their appearance or cooking data; fish in held slots remain unchanged.

The change adds clean-catch handling for eligible whole fish, updates food stack equivalence and inventory insertion, and collects compatible food across eligible inventory slots on double-click. It also allows double-chest inventories in the inventory-open holder filter.

Changes: Fish and food inventory

Adds the CLEAN_CATCH key and whole-fish helpers that preserve appearance while marking cleaned items. Legacy scans identify eligible fish, leave held items unchanged, and remove catch data from other eligible items.

Food comparisons ignore catch size and the clean-catch marker. Inventory insertion writes the merged stack. The README describes fish stacking across sizes and catch-size retention on conversion.

Double-click collection gathers compatible food from eligible slots, takes partial stacks before full stacks, and stops at the cursor limit. The inventory-open holder filter accepts double chests.

Some legacy fish may remain unstackable after cleanup, and opening an inventory can replace the recorded size of a separately stored fish. These behaviors are bounded, but the legacy stacking gap and catch-size retention conflict remain unresolved.
