Summary

Cooking foods can change their underlying Minecraft material as they age or are prepared. Brewery used that visual material as the ingredient's identity, so rotten potatoes and fruit could count as apples, while rotten wheat was rejected as tropical fish.

This PR resolves whole ingredients through Cooking's existing conversions.yml catalog, using the food's type and origin. Freshness and warmth keep the identity. Cooked, cut, chopped, mashed, seasoned or composed Cooking foods are rejected. The resolved ingredient must already be accepted by Brewery. Explicit custom ingredient recipes still work, and unmapped ItemsAdder/MMOItems items can no longer fall back to their vanilla base material.

A runtime identity gate in Brewery's accepted-item list lets Cooking foods reach the resolver before Brewery rejects their visual material. The gate is registered directly in that list rather than as a cauldron recipe (see review fixes). Brewery only appends to the list when it reloads, so the gate survives /brew reload. If another plugin rebuilds the list, a LOWEST-priority click check puts the gate back before Brewery's own click handler runs. The gate is removed when Cooking shuts down, when BreweryX is disabled, or if registration fails.

Only Brewery's internal copy of the ingredient changes. Brewery consumes the held item normally. Item definitions, textures, food metadata, recipes and stored batches are unchanged.

Review fixes (takeover, 3 rounds)

  1. The first version registered the gate through a fake BCauldronRecipe. That broke /brew simulate. Brewery's ingredient tab completion throws IllegalStateException("Unknown RecipeItem Type!") on a custom RecipeItem, and "Cooking ingredient acceptance" appeared as a recipe name. I confirmed this on Dev with the old jar: Unhandled exception during tab completion for command '/brew simulate -c 5 '. The gate now goes straight into BCauldronRecipe.acceptedCustom.
  2. The hook is now removed when BreweryX is disabled (PluginDisableEvent), so a PlugMan-style reload doesn't leave stale state behind.
  3. Cauldron clicks repair the gate if anything clears Brewery's accepted list.
  4. CodeRabbit: warmth is now identity-neutral, like freshness. A raw food pulled off the heat early is still its whole ingredient, and cooked food is still rejected by the cooked track.

Documentation impact

  • The central Cooking documentation and the player wiki are unchanged. There are no new commands, recipes or configuration files.
  • Resolution follows the current conversion catalog, including after Cooking config reloads. Ambiguous identities fail closed. For variants such as egg colours, the vanilla identity wins.

Testing

  • Local mvn clean verify (English locale, same as CI): 1,230 tests passed, and the zero-missed-line coverage gate passed. GitHub Actions build and PR-size checks passed.
  • Tests use the real, checksum-pinned BreweryX 3.7.0 API. Brewery remains an optional runtime dependency.
  • TFMCDev01, real network clicks by a character bot (TestChar1, survival) on water cauldrons over magma (~/pr82-test/test.js), 24/24 passed on 2b74243. Each case reads the ingredient list Brewery stored in the bottled brew's breweryx:brewdata:
    • rotten potato (APPLE visual): consumed 1, recorded POTATO
    • rotten wheat (TROPICAL_FISH visual): consumed 1, recorded WHEAT
    • fresh potato: recorded POTATO; warm raw potato (freshness.0;warmth.0): recorded POTATO; vanilla apple: recorded APPLE
    • cut potato: rejected, nothing consumed
    • after brew reload, rotten potato is still recorded as POTATO
    • /brew simulate, -r and -c 5 tab completion return 15/83/56 suggestions with no exception, and no gate recipe name is listed
    • the remaining held stack keeps its Cooking data, and no Cooking/Brewery errors appeared in the log
  • The earlier Dev run on c9a2197 covered the rest: ten rotten potatoes became vodka after three distillations, apples still made apple liquor, fresh/rotten grapes and rotten lemon kept their explicit custom identities, a fried egg and unrelated custom rice were rejected, and serialization survived a restart.
  • Dev now runs 2b74243 (jar SHA-256 a0e1830e5544181098768e45f3e666b4ab44d3003f32be81506c511762927877). Startup logs BreweryX Cooking ingredient resolver enabled. with no new Cooking warnings. The test pad was removed and the bot was deopped.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added optional BreweryX integration, allowing compatible cooking ingredients to be recognised in brewing recipes.
    • Integration activates when BreweryX is available and cleans up when it is disabled or the plugin shuts down.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved ingredient matching to reject unsupported, ambiguous or invalid items while preserving compatible recipe behaviour.
    • Ingredient resolution now accounts for food type, origin and preparation state.
  • Chores
    • Added checksum verification for downloaded libraries.

This change adds BreweryX 3.7.0 as a provided dependency and introduces an optional integration. The integration resolves eligible Cooking foods to canonical items for Brewery ingredient matching and manages registration as BreweryX is enabled or disabled.

Changes: BreweryX integration

Layer / File(s) Summary
Provision BreweryX dependency
.github/dependencies.sha256, .github/scripts/prepare-release.sh, .github/scripts/install-local-dependencies.sh, pom.xml, src/main/resources/plugin.yml
Adds the BreweryX JAR checksum and release download. The installation script installs the JAR to the local Maven repository, and the project declares it as a provided dependency and soft dependency.
Resolve and match Cooking ingredients
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/brewery/*, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/brewery/BreweryIngredientTest.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/brewery/BrewingIngredientResolverTest.java
Adds food source resolution, a recipe identity gate, and ingredient listener logic. Tests cover canonical replacements, rejected inputs, event cancellation, gate persistence, and cleanup.
Manage optional BreweryX lifecycle
src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/Cooking.java, src/main/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/brewery/BreweryBridge.java, src/test/java/net/tfminecraft/cooking/brewery/BreweryIngredientTest.java
Connects bridge registration and cleanup to the Cooking plugin lifecycle. The bridge registers the ingredient listener when BreweryX is enabled and closes the registration when BreweryX is disabled.

BreweryX matching resolves eligible Cooking foods while preserving the held item. An event-level test for serialized preparation tracks is advisable, but no concrete runtime failure is established, so merge risk is minimal.

Register the Cooking identity gate directly in Brewery's accepted-item
list, which Brewery only appends to on reload. The previous fake cauldron
recipe broke /brew simulate tab completion, because Brewery cannot
describe custom RecipeItem types. Drop the hook when BreweryX disables.

Re-add the identity gate at LOWEST priority when a Cooking item is used
on a block, so a plugin that rebuilds Brewery's accepted-item list does
not silently drop Cooking ingredient resolution.

Warmth is a temporary temperature state, so treat it like freshness when
resolving a whole ingredient. Cooked foods are still rejected by the
cooked track.

Dev retest on 2b74243 passed 24/24 with real network clicks, including a warm raw potato (freshness.0;warmth.0) recorded as POTATO.

Cover serialised preparation tracks in the Brewery event test.

BreweryIngredientTest.item(...) does not write Keys.TAGS, so its click-path assertions do not exercise FoodItem.fromItem track restoration. Add event-level cases for a serialised warm raw item and a serialised cooked item.
