feat(usage): add a Usage tab with provider limits and usage history - #2225
This PR adds a Usage tab to Settings. It shows live provider limits and a usage history.
Provider limits
Two host services supply the limits: copilotQuota and providerQuotas. They cover GitHub Copilot, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, Moonshot, Kimi Code, z.ai, MiniMax, NanoGPT, and OpenCode Go.
The payload parsers are pure functions with unit tests.
A key goes only to the default host of its own provider. A profile with a custom base URL shows "not checked". A profile on the default host is preferred over a gateway profile.
Only successful results are cached (60 seconds), per provider and per key. A failed refresh removes the old entry. Callers that ask for the same key share one request.
The webview sends a request id and cancels on unmount. The host aborts the fetches when the last waiting caller leaves, and the webview ignores an answer for an older request.
Copilot uses the GitHub session that VS Code already holds. It never prompts. Unknown usage shows "Usage not reported", not "0% used".
Keys stay in the extension host. The webview gets display-ready rows only.
Usage history
The history comes from local task history. The host records per-model usage (usageByModel) in task metadata, so a later change of the active profile does not relabel old requests.
Filters: Today, 7 days, 30 days, All time, and a workspace filter. A daily chart, breakdowns by provider, model, and mode, and CSV export.
Unpriced providers show tokens and "no price", not $0.00.
The chart steps by calendar day, so it is correct across a daylight-saving change. The view and the export share one "now" that rolls over at local midnight.
CSV cells that start with =, +, -, @, tab, or carriage return get a leading apostrophe.
Review notes
The Copilot quota endpoint (copilot_internal/user) is not a public API. A failure shows a quiet status row.
This PR adds no setting, so it does not touch updateSettings.
Mutation gate:mutation-diff reports 654 changed executable lines in the extension and 749 in the webview (limit 500). Most of it is providerQuotas.ts (467), UsageSettings.tsx (394), and usage.ts (181). The parsers and the view model are pure code with their own tests. I ask a maintainer for a one-time exclusion for this PR.
Test Procedure
pnpm check-types passes in webview-ui, src, and packages/types.
Webview tests pass (178 files, 2283 tests). Extension tests for the language models, the webview handler, and task persistence pass (53 files, 1097 tests).
Playwright snapshots cover the populated, degraded, and empty states in four themes.
The DST tests run in America/New_York and assert that the fixture crosses a clock change.
Manual: open Settings > Usage. Check each state. Click Refresh. Close the tab while a request runs. Export a CSV and open it in a spreadsheet.

Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added a Usage section in Settings with cost and token summaries, daily charts, task and provider/model breakdowns, and date-range and workspace filters.
Export filtered usage history to CSV.
View quota and balance information for supported providers, including GitHub Copilot, with usage windows and reset dates where available. Refresh quota information or retry after an error.
Usage history shows provider and model details when available, and falls back to token totals when costs are unavailable.
Bug Fixes
Usage breakdowns now reflect saved task messages and clear when usage data is no longer available.
Request cost and model attribution remain consistent if provider settings change during a task.
Usage date ranges and daily charts follow local calendar days across daylight-saving changes.
Localization
Added Usage settings translations across supported languages.
This change adds per-provider/model usage attribution to task history, quota retrieval for supported providers, and a Usage section in Settings. The section displays filtered usage summaries and provider limits. It also supports CSV export through the extension host.
Changes: Usage attribution and history
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Record and persist usage packages/types/src/history.ts, src/core/task/..., src/core/task-persistence/...
History items gain per-provider/model request, token, cache, and cost totals. Request records retain provider and model attribution and use the protocol recorded for each request. Persistence can clear stale usage breakdowns.
Aggregate usage history webview-ui/src/utils/usage.ts, webview-ui/src/utils/__tests__/*
Usage helpers filter and aggregate task history by date and workspace. They produce daily series, provider/model/mode breakdowns, top tasks, and CSV data.
Provider quota retrieval
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Parse and retrieve provider quotas packages/types/src/providers/vscode-llm.ts, src/services/language-models/...
Quota contracts, parsers, profile selection, host validation, caching, shared requests, timeouts, and cancellation are added.
Connect quota requests to the extension host packages/types/src/vscode-extension-host.ts, src/core/webview/...
Message contracts and handlers carry quota requests, cancellations, profile data, and responses. Provider disposal aborts outstanding requests.
Usage Settings and CSV export
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Add Usage and provider-limit views webview-ui/src/components/settings/..., webview-ui/src/i18n/locales/..., webview-ui/playwright/gallery/stories.tsx
Settings adds usage filters, summaries, charts, breakdowns, top tasks, and provider limits. Locales, fixtures, and UI tests cover these views.
Export filtered usage as CSV webview-ui/src/utils/usage.ts, src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts, src/integrations/misc/export-usage-csv.ts
The webview sends filtered CSV data to the extension host. The host validates the input and neutralizes formula-leading cells before writing the file.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review affbb
Mergeable with owner awareness of narrow quota and usage-history inaccuracies and a cancellation error path. Concurrent saves can leave stale usage metadata until another save repairs it. The missing screenshot baseline concern is resolved.

Explanation
The description includes the linked issue, implementation details, testing procedure, checklist, visual snapshot coverage, and documentation impact. It omits some optional template sections, such as Additional Notes and Get in Touch, but the required information is mostly complete.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files support the Usage feature in [#2215]. These include shared types for provider quotas, usageByModel, and ClineApiReqInfo provider and model fields; quota services, cache, and utilities; the webview quota handler, cancellation, and disposal cleanup in ClineProvider.ts; usageByModel persistence and attribution in Task.ts and taskMetadata.ts; CSV export and neutralization; Usage UI, tests, visual fixtures, and locale files; and the providerLabel helper.
The taskStoreConcurrency.ts and TaskHistoryStore changes are in scope because they persist the per-model usage data. The concurrency gap is handled under the linked-issue assessment, not as an unrelated change. The mutation-gate exclusion request is administrative and adds no product scope. The long-text visual baseline is excluded by the ignored-files rule, so it is not evaluated. Most file-level conclusions rely on PR summaries, with source reads limited to the persistence and CSV paths.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
No changed path meets the failure condition. providerQuotas.ts uses a static provider allowlist and fixed provider URLs; custom hosts are rejected by sameOrigin/ownHost, and keys stay in host-side request headers. copilotQuota.ts sends the VS Code token only to the fixed GitHub URL and reduces network errors through safeErrorMessage. webviewMessageHandler.ts posts formatted quota data, not credentials. export-usage-csv.ts validates size and CSV structure, restricts the filename range, and neutralizes formula-leading cells before the user-selected save. The Usage UI renders provider and task data as React text without executable HTML.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#2215] Most coding requirements have implementation evidence in the PR summaries. These include the Usage tab wiring, provider limits for the nine listed providers, Copilot quota with a silent session lookup, custom-base-URL rows shown as not checked, host-side key handling, request cancellation, cache invalidation on failure, local history filters, breakdowns, unpriced display, CSV export with formula neutralization, and locale strings.
The persistence requirement is not met. computeHistoryDelta in src/core/task-persistence/taskStoreConcurrency.ts (verified at head) always includes usageByModel when its incoming value is undefined, even when the cached value is also undefined. mergeHistoryDelta applies that clear over the disk record under the file lock, with no check that the clear is newer than the disk value. An older save that finishes after a newer save that populated usageByModel can therefore clear the per-model breakdown. The per-model breakdown is the data source for the provider and model history in [#2215]. The test clears a stored usageByModel when the same task is saved again without one in TaskHistoryStore.realConcurrency.spec.ts asserts the clear as correct behavior. No older-save/newer-save interleaving test exists. The author states that a later save recomputes the metadata. That does not cover the case where no later save occurs. The interleaving was not run as a test. The finding rests on the source read of the delta and merge functions.
Resolution
Make the task-history save path prevent a stale usageByModel clear from overwriting a newer breakdown on disk. For example, compare the incoming save with the disk revision under the file lock, or only apply an explicit clear when the writer knows its snapshot is current. Add a test for the older-save/newer-save interleaving that asserts the newer usageByModel survives on disk and in the cache. Keep the explicit-clear test only for a clear that the current writer knows is newer.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The prior persistence race remains unresolved. Task.saveClineMessages writes ui_messages.json and then separately calls provider.updateTaskHistory; the fire-and-forget callers at Task.ts:2446-2448 and 2463-2465 do not serialize these operations. The PR makes taskMetadata emit usageByModel: undefined and makes computeHistoryDelta persist that explicit clear. Scenario: an older rewind/no-usage save writes its messages, pauses before its metadata update, a newer save records usageByModel, and the older update then clears the newer breakdown under the history-store lock. The persistedMessages change prevents a stale message snapshot from miscomputing metadata, but it does not order metadata updates. Existing added tests cover sequential and cross-host clears, not this interleaving.
Resolution
Serialize each task's message write and metadata update as one ordered operation, including fire-and-forget callers, or attach a message revision/generation to metadata updates and reject stale updates. Add a regression test in which an older no-usage save pauses after its message write, a newer usage save completes, and the older metadata stage resumes; verify that the final history retains the newer usageByModel.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The long-text Playwright snapshot is present, but the changed persistence behavior still lacks focused concurrency coverage. Task.saveClineMessages now computes metadata from each persisted message snapshot (src/core/task/Task.ts:1788-1815), while taskMetadata emits usageByModel: undefined and computeHistoryDelta always carries that clear. The current tests cover sequential clearing, stale-cache merging, and merged-message computation, but no test interleaves an older no-usage save with a newer usage-bearing save and verifies the final disk and cache state.
Resolution
Add a focused real-concurrency test in src/core/task-persistence/__tests__/TaskHistoryStore.realConcurrency.spec.ts or the lowest applicable persistence layer. Force an older clear and a newer usageByModel write to settle in both relevant orders, then assert the intended final usageByModel value in the history file and both store caches. Retain the existing usage-settings-long-text.png Playwright snapshot.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The prior lifecycle defect remains in the changed quota path. webviewMessageHandler.ts:1623-1627 passes the abort signal to loadProfilesWithActive, and disposal aborts that signal at ClineProvider.ts:963 and 1192. However, withDeadline (providerQuotas.ts:600-614) and readProfile (616-630) do not accept the signal. If disposal occurs while listConfig() or any getProfile() is pending, until rejects immediately, but the 10-second timers and underlying profile promises continue. Profile reads are started for every entry before the abort can reject the outer Promise.all. This retains timers and continues profile work after cancellation.
Resolution
Make withDeadline and readProfile accept the request AbortSignal. Clear their timers and remove abort listeners on normal settlement and abort. Pass the signal from loadProfilesWithActive to both wrappers. Pass the signal to profile APIs if they support cancellation; otherwise release all local timers and listeners immediately and ignore late promise settlement.

Why one PR. The Usage tab is one feature. The limits, the history, and the per-model usage record share types (ProviderQuota, usageByModel). A split leaves a half-working tab between merges. I already split the larger first PR (#2216) into three: time/date (#2223), fonts (#2224), and this one. The other two are under the limit.
Why the size is mostly parsers.providerQuotas.ts is the payload parsers for nine providers. They are pure functions of a JSON payload. usage.ts is a pure view model. Both have their own specs, including edge cases, DST, and CSV safety. The code that touches the network is small.
What I ask for. An exclusion for this PR only, or a one-time limit bump for the two packages.
If you prefer a split. I can cut it as: (1) the extension quota services and the message, (2) the history view model and the Usage tab. That makes the second PR depend on the first.

## Visual Tests (Playwright Story Gallery)
### When a UI change needs a snapshot
Skip a visual test when the change is behavior-only (state transitions, handler wiring, validation) — those belong in Vitest. Visual tests are for what JSDOM cannot verify.
[warning] 61-61: This synchronous effect update causes an extra render: Calling setState synchronously within an effect can trigger cascading renders. Prefer deriving or initializing the value before render. If the effect must read a browser API after mount, treat this as advisory or suppress it with // react-doctor-disable-next-line react-hooks-js/set-state-in-effect.
Effects are intended to synchronize state between React and external systems such as manually updating the DOM, state management libraries, or other platform APIs. In general, the body of an effect should do one or both of the following:
Update external systems with the latest state from React.
Subscribe for updates from some external system, calling setState in a callback function when external state changes.
⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Move the request-ID increment out of the component body so React Compiler can optimize it.
React Doctor reports that ++quotaRequestCounter on Line 48 is an update expression on a module-level variable. The compiler does not support it and skips memoization for ProviderLimits. The behavior is correct, and the module-level counter must stay. Wrap the increment in a module-scope helper.

Add a regression test that caches a result, changes the session, and makes a normal call within the TTL.

Abort quota requests when a tab view is replaced.
1191-1193: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🟡 Minor | 💤 Low value
Abort quota requests when a tab view is replaced.
When tab recovery replaces the panel, the old panel's quota requests keep running. initializeWebviewView disposes the old view's subscriptions without aborting them. The request then completes and posts its response to the replacement view. The replacement discards that response, so the cost is one extra provider-limit fetch per recovery.
Call abortProviderQuotaRequests(this) in initializeWebviewView before this.clearWebviewResources() in the this.view !== webviewView branch. That matches the PR's stated rule that requests are canceled when the webview closes.

Assert the persisted api_req_started tokens and cost in the profile-switch test.
The test asserts only the captureLlmCompletion payload. The finalized request message is written separately by updateApiReqMsg, which computes its own tokensIn and cost. A change to that write, such as the protocol pinning or the 1h/12h cache-write split, would not change the telemetry values this test checks. Read the persisted message and assert both fields. The write completes before telemetry is captured, so the values are available at this point.

Give the exportSettings test its own provider settings manager.
The base mockClineProvider does not define providerSettingsManager. This test reads a value that earlier zooCodeSignOut tests assign to the shared mock. Run alone, for example with vitest -t exportSettings, the expected value and the handler argument are both undefined. The assertion then passes even if the handler drops the manager. Assign a distinct manager in this test and assert that object.

@coderabbitai on the Persistence Integrity finding about saveClineMessages: this PR does not add the two-step save. ui_messages.json is written first and the history item second, as before. What this PR changes is that the metadata, including usageByModel, is computed from the messages that were actually persisted (the result of saveTaskMessages, merged with what another host wrote), so a stale local snapshot cannot clear usage that the stored messages still contain. If the second write fails or is overtaken, the next saveClineMessages() recomputes the whole item from the stored messages and repairs it; that is stated in the code. Serializing every metadata save across task instances, or adding a persisted revision number, would change the task persistence model for every task, which is out of scope for the Usage tab. Please say if you see a concrete sequence in which usage is lost permanently, and I will add a test for it.

Add a test for the top-of-loop cancellation guard in the MiniMax fallback.
946-952: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Low value
Add a test for the top-of-loop cancellation guard in the MiniMax fallback.
The existing MiniMax cancellation test rejects its first fetch on abort. The catch then rethrows because signal.aborted is true. Removing the top-of-loop signal.aborted check leaves that test passing. No test covers a first URL that ignores the abort.
Add a test where the first request resolves after the abort with unusable data, such as { model_remains: [] }. Assert that fetchSpy is still called once after the late response has been processed.
The lookup promise rejects at the abort, so awaiting it does not wait for the late response. The test needs explicit synchronization with that processing, such as a deferred that resolves when the mock response body is read.

@KarthickMahalingam You are correct that this PR does not introduce the two-stage save. I also cannot substantiate unrecoverable loss of the usage records in ui_messages.json. My finding should distinguish that from a stale persisted history breakdown.
After inspecting 6c320db2, this ordering remains possible:
Save A writes messages without recorded usage. saveTaskMessages returns that persisted snapshot.
Save A enters taskMetadata and pauses at an asynchronous operation, such as the directory-size calculation.
Save B writes newer messages with recorded usage and completes its history update with a populated usageByModel.
Save A resumes with its earlier snapshot. It emits usageByModel: undefined.
Save A updates history last. computeHistoryDelta explicitly retains that clear, so the history merge removes Save B’s breakdown.
The relevant boundaries are src/core/task/Task.ts, Line 1794 and Line 1832; src/core/task-persistence/taskMetadata.ts, Line 83 and Line 117; and src/core/task-persistence/taskStoreConcurrency.ts, Line 25.
Computing metadata from persisted messages fixes the case where usage already exists when Save A writes its messages. It does not cover usage written after that write but before Save A updates history.
A later successful saveClineMessages() can repair this state, as you describe. If no later save occurs, the breakdown remains absent from history. TaskHistoryStore.reconcile() reloads history_item.json; it does not rebuild the breakdown from ui_messages.json. This matches the supplied persistence learning, which I checked against the source.
The remaining concern is persistent, repairable history inconsistency—not permanent destruction of usage records. The underlying ordering issue predates this PR, but the new usageByModel field participates in it.
The focused test you offered would settle this case: pause Save A after its message write, let Save B finish both writes, then resume Save A. Check the final history breakdown before any repair save. This does not require committing to cross-instance serialization or a revision scheme.
This assessment comes from source inspection; I did not run a concurrency test.

Learning: In `src/core/task-persistence/taskStoreConcurrency.ts`, `mergeHistoryDelta` rejects an illegal `status` transition with `DeltaRejectedError`, unions concurrent `childIds` additions, and applies other delta fields by replacement. The convergence specification in `docs/architecture/task-lifecycle-persisted-ownership-model.md` requires separate tests for these behaviors.
@coderabbitai on the latest checks for this PR (head just pushed):
Lifecycle Resource Cleanup: fixed.requestProviderQuotas without a request id is now tracked in a per-provider set that abortProviderQuotaRequests drains, and removed when the request finishes. Tests: a request without an id is aborted on disposal and posts nothing; finished requests leave nothing behind.
Regression Evidence: fixed. A Playwright case (usage-settings-long-text) renders overlong task, provider and model text and large totals, and checks with the bounded-layout contract (story width and the 320px reflow width with WCAG text spacing) that nothing is clipped or overflows. Replacing the wrapping with clipping (truncate) fails it.
Security Boundaries: partly. The host now bounds the text it will write (20 million characters). The file is only written after the user picks a location in a save dialog with a CSV filter, and the file name is built from a known range. I did not move the CSV generation to the host: it depends on the webview's history view, range and workspace logic, and duplicating it would create two implementations. The webview already neutralises formula-leading cells in what it builds. If you see a concrete way the text can do harm beyond being a file the user chose to save, please say so.
Persistence Integrity: unchanged from my earlier comment: the two-step save is not added by this PR, and the next save recomputes the metadata from the persisted messages.
#!/bin/bash
sed -n '1610,1685p' src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts
Length of output: 3437
@KarthickMahalingam I inspected head 216a0652. The lifecycle and layout changes address those findings. The CSV boundary concern remains.
Lifecycle and regression coverage
Lifecycle: Every quota request enters the per-provider set, including requests without an ID. Disposal aborts that set. The handler removes completed controllers and suppresses responses after cancellation.
Layout:usage-settings-long-text uses overlong content and expectBoundedLayout. This follows the supplied layout Learning and webview-ui/AGENTS.md. An additional snapshot for the geometry matrix is not required.
I inspected the tests but did not run them. I have not independently verified the reported truncate mutation result.
CSV: the concrete harm occurs when the saved file is opened
A compromised webview can bypass usageToCsv and send this message directly:
webviewMessageHandler.ts, Line 1148, forwards that text. export-usage-csv.ts, Line 26, writes it unchanged.
If the user opens this file in a spreadsheet that evaluates CSV formulas, the task cell evaluates to 2 instead of displaying literal text. CSV quoting does not neutralise formulas. More harmful formulas can invoke external-data functions, subject to the spreadsheet’s settings and prompts.
Saving the file does not execute the formula. The risk is delayed formula evaluation after opening it. The size limit, filename, and save dialog do not prevent that risk.
You do not need to duplicate the history filters. Keep CSV generation in the webview, but parse and re-serialize the CSV at the host boundary. Neutralise formula-leading cells there and reject malformed CSV. A focused regression test should send crafted CSV directly to the host exporter, bypassing usageToCsv, and inspect the bytes written.
Persistence
Agreed: this PR does not introduce the two-step save, and a later successful save can repair the metadata. I am not claiming permanent loss of message records.
The narrower concern remains: an older save can write usageByModel: undefined after a newer save writes its breakdown. Without another save, history remains inconsistent with the messages. The concrete verification remains the paused-older-save interleaving described above, checked before a repair save.
If you want to defer that pre-existing persistence ordering issue, would you like a follow-up issue?

Stale metadata upsert can clear a newer usage breakdown.
saveClineMessages calls at src/core/task/Task.ts:2446 and 2463 are not awaited, so saves for one task can overlap. The metadata upsert at src/core/task/Task.ts:1830-1832 runs after taskMetadata resolves and has no sequence check. If an older save's snapshot has no usage records, its usageByModel is undefined. That explicit undefined is kept in the delta and replaces the newer breakdown on disk and in the cache. The history item then shows no breakdown until another save runs.
Give each save a sequence number when it takes its snapshot. Skip the metadata upsert when a newer save has already upserted. Add a concurrency test with two overlapping saves in which the older metadata resolves after the newer upsert. The test should assert that the history item keeps the newer usageByModel.

@coderabbitai the latest checks on this PR, at the new head:
Security Boundaries and the CSV part of Linked Issues: fixed. The host no longer trusts the CSV text. exportUsageCsv parses it and writes it again with neutralizeCsvFormulas: every cell, in every row and column and quoted or not, whose value starts with =, +, -, @, a tab or a carriage return gets a leading apostrophe; malformed CSV (a quote that is never closed) is rejected and nothing is saved; text that is already inert comes back unchanged. Tests: the neutraliser (every leading character, quoted and unquoted, every row and column, newlines and doubled quotes inside a cell, Windows line ends, malformed input, a CSV shaped like the Usage tab's), and the exporter with crafted input, where only the neutralised text is written. Writing the original text again fails a test.
Regression Evidence: fixed. The long-text case now also has toHaveScreenshot("usage-settings-long-text.png") with the baseline from the Linux CI run, next to the bounded-layout assertion.
Codecov (providerQuotas.ts): the partial branch was the cancelled-between-URLs check; a test now cancels the lookup while the first URL is answering and checks that the second is not tried.
Persistence Integrity and the stale usageByModel part of Linked Issues: unchanged from my earlier comment. @coderabbitai I took your point about the persistence race and the quota lifecycle; both are changed in the latest push.
Persistence Integrity and the stale usageByModel clear (Linked Issues):Task.saveClineMessages now runs one save at a time per task, from the message write to the task-history write, including the callers that do not wait for it. An older save's metadata can therefore no longer land after a newer save's and replace it, an explicit clear of the usage breakdown included. A save that fails does not hold up the next one. Tests (with deferred metadata and history writes): the second save does not write anything before the first one has written its history entry, and the entries are written in the order the saves were asked for; a failed save does not block the next; three saves finish in call order even when the first is the slowest. Removing the queue fails 2 of them.
Regression Evidence: the ordering is covered at the layer that owns it, Task. The store-level tests already cover the merge under the file lock; with the saves serialized, an older clear cannot reach the store after a newer breakdown from the same task.
Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:withDeadline and readProfile now take the request's AbortSignal (passed from loadProfilesWithActive). On abort they reject (a profile read resolves as missing) at once, and the timer and the abort listener are released whichever way they end. Tests (fake timers, with the listeners counted): an abort while the list is pending, an abort while profiles are being read, an already aborted signal (nothing is read), normal completion, and the 10-second timeout of a read that never settles all leave no timer and no listener. An abort that happens before anyone waits for the list no longer leaves an unhandled rejection.

@KarthickMahalingam I inspected head b0c55403. The save queue addresses the reported same-instance persistence race. One cancellation edge case remains.
Persistence: addressed
Task.saveClineMessages now serializes the message write, metadata computation, and task-history update for each Task instance. Fire-and-forget callers use the same queue. A failed save does not block the next save.
The tests in src/core/task/__tests__/Task.persistence.spec.ts cover deferred metadata, deferred history writes, failure recovery, and three-save ordering. These tests target the layer that owns this ordering.
Lifecycle: one remaining rejection path
In src/services/language-models/providerQuotas.ts, Line 618, withDeadline returns before it attaches rejection handlers to work when the signal is already aborted.
loadProfilesWithActive has already called source.listConfig() at that point. If that promise rejects, its rejection has no handler. The catch in until consumes the wrapper promise, not the underlying listConfig() promise.
Consume the underlying rejection before the early return:
Add a regression case with an already-aborted signal and a rejecting listConfig(). Assert that the operation reports AbortError, starts no profile reads, leaves no timers, and causes no unhandled rejection. The current already-aborted test uses a successful list read, so it does not exercise this case.
The timer and listener cleanup changes otherwise address the reported resource leak. I inspected the tests but did not run them or verify the mutation results. The lifecycle finding remains open for this rejection path.

Learning: In Zoo-Code task-history persistence, `tasks/_index.json` and `TaskHistoryStore.flushIndex()` were removed. Per-task `history_item.json` files are the source of truth. `TaskHistoryStore.reconcile()` scans task directories, and cross-instance updates use the `safeWriteJson` merge callback under its advisory lock.
