- Triplet loss for metric learning
- Cross-camera identity preservation
-
Multi-Camera Tracking (~300 LOC)
- Global ID management
- Homography-based coordinate transform
- Cross-camera appearance matching
Total algorithm implementation: ~1,500 LOC (not including engineering)

Key Components:
- Kalman Filter: 8-dimensional state space [x, y, a, h, vx, vy, va, vh]
- Cascade Matching: Prioritizes younger tracks for stability
- Appearance Features: Cosine distance matching with feature gallery
Implementation:
# From src/models/tracking/deepsort.py (150 LOC)
class KalmanFilter:
def predict(self, mean, covariance):
# State prediction: x' = F*x
# Covariance: P' = F*P*F^T + Q
...
def update(self, mean, covariance, measurement):
# Kalman gain: K = P'*H^T*(H*P'*H^T + R)^-1
# State update: x = x' + K*(z - H*x')
...Novel architecture that formulates tracking as a set prediction problem:
- Self-attention among detections and tracks
- Cross-attention for detection-track association
- Learnable matching head instead of hand-crafted metrics
# From src/models/tracking/transformer_tracker.py (200 LOC)
class TransformerTracker(nn.Module):
def forward(self, detections, tracks):
# Encode detections and tracks
det_feat = self.detection_encoder(detections)
track_feat = self.track_encoder(tracks)
# Cross-attention for matching
match_scores = self.cross_attn(det_feat, track_feat)
# Predict bbox refinement and track state
refined_boxes = self.bbox_head(match_scores)
track_states = self.state_head(match_scores)
...Architecture:
- Backbone: ResNet50 (pretrained on ImageNet)
- Custom: Channel Attention module
- Head: Embedding layer (512-dim) + Classification
Training:
- Triplet Loss: Metric learning for person features
- Cross-Entropy: Classification auxiliary loss
- Combined loss with α = 0.5 weighting
