Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added coverage for generated strings of lengths 1–32, checking that they contain lowercase words, match the requested length, and avoid leading or trailing spaces. Tests also check that generation retries when truncation leaves a trailing space.
    • Automated test runs now cover Python 3.10–3.14 on Ubuntu and Windows. The test executable is built separately and provided to the test runs as an artifact.

Walkthrough

The test utility now generates space-separated lowercase strings with retry behavior. The CI workflow builds the test executable in a separate job and distributes it to a Python 3.10–3.14 test matrix on Ubuntu and Windows.

Changes: Random string generation and test execution

Layer / File(s) Summary
Generate and test random strings
tests/utils.py, tests/test_utils.py
get_random_word generates lowercase words. get_random_string joins and truncates words, retrying strings that end in a space or match not_equals. Tests check lengths 1–32 and retry behavior.
Build and distribute the test executable
.github/workflows/test.yml
A separate Ubuntu job builds and uploads tests/test64.exe. The test job downloads it and runs the expanded Python version matrix on Ubuntu and Windows.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 2 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Nitpick Add a zero-length case to the getrandomstring test.

9-11: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a zero-length case to the get_random_string test.

get_random_string has an explicit branch for length == 0. That branch returns "", or raises ValueError when not_equals is "". The parametrized test in tests/test_utils.py covers only range(1, 33), so no test checks that branch. A regression there would not fail the new tests. Add 0 to the parametrized range, or add a separate test for get_random_string(0), and assert the empty-string result.

Review comment at @tests/test_utils.py around lines 9 - 11:
Extend the test_get_random_string parameterization to include length 0 and
assert that get_random_string(0) returns an empty string, preserving the
existing assertions for positive lengths.
Nitpick Add a regression case for repeated separator-ending candidates.

21-24: Trivial · Stability & Availability · Poor tradeoff

Add a regression case for repeated separator-ending candidates.

The retry test supplies one truncated candidate, then a valid one, so it passes for any implementation that retries on truncated candidates, including one with unbounded retries. Add a test that exercises repeated separator-ending candidates and checks bounded termination. Fixing the helper's bound may be needed first.

Review comment at @tests/test_utils.py around lines 21 - 24:
Add a regression case for get_random_string that repeatedly supplies
separator-ending candidates and verifies the helper terminates within its
established retry bound. If get_random_string retries without a bound, update
its retry logic to enforce bounded termination while preserving its existing
result behavior.
Nitpick Add a test that checks notequals is honored.

9-11: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a test that checks not_equals is honored.

The new tests in tests/test_utils.py never pass not_equals. An implementation that ignores that argument still passes them. The only other check, in tests/test_patch.py, runs only when possible_to_run_exe() is true. On Linux runners without wine, it is skipped. On Windows, it detects an ignored not_equals only when a random string happens to collide with the source string. Add a deterministic test that patches get_random_word so the first candidate equals not_equals, then assert that the function returns the next candidate.

🧪 Suggested test
     assert get_random_string(3) == "d e"
+
+
+def test_get_random_string_retries_when_equal_to_not_equals(monkeypatch: pytest.MonkeyPatch):
+ generated_words = iter(["a", "b", "c", "d"])
+ monkeypatch.setattr(utils, "get_random_word", lambda _: next(generated_words))
+
+    assert get_random_string(1, not_equals="a") == "c"

The assertion works only if the test file ends with the test_get_random_string_retries_when_truncated_at_separator case, which the hunk shows.

Review comment at @tests/test_utils.py around lines 9 - 11:
Add a deterministic test alongside test_get_random_string that patches
get_random_word to yield a first candidate equal to not_equals, followed by a
different candidate, then assert get_random_string returns the next candidate.
This should fail if not_equals is ignored.
