Fixes #955.

Summary

  • delay the successful --get completion message until connection cleanup finishes
  • suppress the post-cleanup message when listening or serial logging intentionally keeps the connection open
  • keep invalid and multi-value --get behavior unchanged
  • add regressions for one-shot, listening, and serial-log behavior

Testing

  • python -m pytest -q (488 passed, 90 deselected)
  • python -m pytest -q meshtastic/tests/test_main.py meshtastic/tests/test_tcp_interface.py (140 passed)
  • pylint meshtastic examples/ --ignore-patterns '.*_pb2.pyi?$' (10.00/10)
  • mypy meshtastic/__main__.py meshtastic/tests/test_main.py
  • git diff --check

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • The --get completion message now appears only after the interface has closed and only when a preference was found.
    • For a one-shot request, the message appears exactly once. When --listen or --seriallog stdout keeps the connection open, no completion message is shown.

📝 Walkthrough

The --get path now prints “Completed getting preferences” after cleanup only when the preference lookup succeeds and the interface closes. Tests cover one-shot retrieval and cases where the connection remains open.

Changes: Preference retrieval completion

Layer / File(s) Summary

meshtastic/__main__.py, meshtastic/tests/test_main.py
The --get path records whether preferences were found and prints the completion message after structured logs close only if the interface closed. Tests check that a one-shot retrieval prints the message once after interface closure, and that --listen or --seriallog stdout produces no message when the interface remains open.

Explanation

Issue [#955] requires the successful --get completion message to appear only after the routine and connection cleanup finish. The whole-PR diff of meshtastic/__main__.py (merge base to head) meets this requirement. In onConnected, a successful get sets completed_get = True instead of printing immediately. The code then closes the interface when (not args.seriallog) and closeNow holds and records did_close_interface = True. It closes log_set last and prints Completed getting preferences only when completed_get and did_close_interface holds. The message therefore follows interface close and structured-log cleanup, which are the final steps in the try block. Invalid and multi-value --get paths do not set completed_get, so their behavior is unchanged. When the connection stays open (listen or serial log), the message is suppressed. This matches the PR intent. The test diff for meshtastic/tests/test_main.py could not be read in this review, so the regression tests named in the PR description are not independently verified. The implementation verdict rests on the source diff.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The whole-PR diff of meshtastic/__main__.py adds only the completed_get and did_close_interface flags and moves the success print after cleanup. Every hunk relates directly to the --get completion behavior described in [#955]. The PR summary states that the only other changed file is meshtastic/tests/test_main.py, which holds regression tests for this behavior. The test file diff was unavailable in this review, so its contents were not inspected. No unrelated change is identified in the readable evidence.

interface.close(), including the seriallog and closeNow conditions. Preserve the
existing listening behavior and invalid or multi-value --get handling.
