The workflows still install a deleted requirements file and run Nose on Python 3.7, despite the repository having a maintained pytest suite. Replace them with locked pytest, Ruff, and installed-wheel checks on Python 3.10 and 3.14, using current pinned actions. Keep live ESPN checks explicitly opt-in.
Consolidate package metadata into pyproject.toml, remove the conflicting setup.py version and Python 2 universal-wheel flag, use the actual beautifulsoup4 dependency, and include test fixtures in source distributions. Declare Python 3.10+ so current supported dependencies can be used; the previous Python 3.8 claim failed at import on the existing list[list[dict]] annotations. Apply lint/format fixes without changing client behavior.
Validation: 119 offline tests pass locally and against installed wheels on Python 3.10 and 3.14; ten live API checks are intentionally skipped. Ruff, actionlint, zizmor, build, and dependency audit pass. No package release is published by this PR.
Related backlog review: #66 targets a removed Summary code path; #68 targets a deleted requirements file. #70 and #73 still require substantive fixes and are not included here.
