Fixes #3163 .

  • Created process files to call corresponding shortestPath drivers
  • Added a pgtap test and fixed another one because it had edge losses
  • The fix came by using boost filtered graph

@pgRouting/admins

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • KSP and KSP WithPoints support Yen-based path searches with a configurable number of paths.
    • When parallel edges connect the same source and destination, KSP consistently reports the cheapest edge while retaining alternate routes when available.
  • Bug Fixes
    • KSP WithPoints requests with invalid driving-side values are now rejected.
    • KSP and KSP WithPoints requests with nonpositive path counts now return a validation error instead of proceeding with an invalid request.

Walkthrough

KSP and KSP WithPoints now use the ShortestPath drivers and shared process wrappers. Yen searches use filtered graph views. The pgTAP tests cover parallel-edge paths, cheapest-edge selection, and results across different values of k.

Changes

KSP driver consolidation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Yen search through a filtered graph
include/cpp_common/filteredGraph.hpp, include/yen/yen.hpp, include/yen/turnRestrictedPath.hpp, pgtap/ksp/ksp/edge_cases/*
Yen uses filtered graph views to remove vertices and suppress edges by ID. Turn-restricted paths use the Yen class. The tests check parallel-edge paths, cheapest-edge reporting, and recovered edge variants.
KSP modes in ShortestPath drivers
include/c_common/enums.h, include/drivers/shortestPath*_driver.hpp, src/dijkstra/shortestPath*_driver.cpp, src/cpp_common/utilities.cpp, src/dijkstra/*_process.cpp
The Which enum adds KSP modes. The ShortestPath drivers accept KSP options, validate k, and dispatch KSP modes to Yen. The with-points driver loads point and edge queries for those modes. Utilities map the new modes and validate driving-side values.
Shared process wrappers and entry points
include/process/*, src/ksp/*, src/dijkstra/*_process.cpp, src/withPoints/withPoints.c, tools/scripts/code_checker.sh
New process wrappers call the ShortestPath drivers and manage SPI, timing, messages, and result cleanup. Current and legacy KSP entry points use the wrappers. The KSP build source list uses the new process files.
Release notes and catalogs
NEWS.md, doc/src/release_notes.rst, locale/*
The release notes and translation catalogs add the 4.1.0 enhancement entry for KSP and KSP WithPoints using ShortestPath driver files.

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to a8431

An empty points SQL value now takes an error path instead of the prior no-points path, and the Doxygen-enabled configuration remains incompatible with the documented minimum CMake version. Negative k is rejected. These bounded cases leave the change mergeable with owner awareness.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to a8431

The consolidation improves isolation of temporary graph exclusions, but it also changes existing query error behavior beyond KSP. No introduced privilege escalation is established; incomplete security and cancellation coverage prevents a minimal-risk assessment.

Retained concerns

  • Low · architecture · observed: Consolidation changes the shared WithPoints empty-query contract beyond KSP. The previous ShortestPathWithPoints driver treated empty points SQL as a no-points search; the head records a fatal error without a mode restriction and continues toward point loading. Existing non-KSP callers therefore inherit an error path instead of the former fallback, with PostgreSQL transaction-error semantics. Returned-result cleanup limits exposure, and no authorization bypass is established.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected exposure is native routing execution inside a PostgreSQL backend, including KSP and existing WithPoints consumers of shared processing. Graph exclusions are per execution, not persistent database mutations. Application-level reachability, installed role grants, and wider service exposure were not established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Caller-supplied query text reaches the existing PostgreSQL SPI preparation and cursor-loading path. The cursor is opened read-only, and the inspected SQL declarations do not specify SECURITY DEFINER. These are controls on the inspected path, not proof of complete privilege or tenant isolation.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Filtered graph ownership strengthens failure containment: predicate copies share exclusions only within the local view, and an interrupted spur search cannot leave suppression mutations in the underlying graph. This does not prove C++ resource cleanup across PostgreSQL error jumps or cancellation, which remains untested.

it returns the surviving parallel edge’s ID when another matching edge is

Review comments at @src/dijkstra/shortestPath_driver.cpp:
- Around line 154-157: Validate the signed SQL `k` in the KSP processing path
before converting it to `size_t`; reject nonpositive values so a negative input
cannot become a huge path count. Locate the conversion in `kPaths_process.cpp`
and preserve the `shortestPath_driver` validation for already-converted values.

Review comments at @src/dijkstra/shortestPathWithPoints_driver.cpp:
- Around line 156-158: Update the empty-points handling in the driver so an
empty `points_sql` loads edges directly from `edges_sql` instead of reporting an
error and calling `get_points` with an empty query. Keep the existing
query-generation and point-loading flow for non-empty `points_sql`.
