About

Hi, I'm Samarth (Sam). Backend-focused developer interested in infrastructure, performance, JavaScript, databases, and Linux.

my story

My coding journey started six years ago with Harvard's CS50 — David J. Malan's lectures gave me the motivation and clarity that this was the world I wanted to work in. I spent the next two years learning how the web works inside and out, completing freeCodeCamp's full-stack path and studying frontend, backend, APIs, and relational databases.

Along the way, I got intrigued by the promise of Linux and the TUI as the best development environment — and, to a greater extent, the internet's default OS. I first tested it out on WSL, then switched to bare metal on my laptop in July 2023. Since then, I've spent three years living in Neovim, tmux, and the CLI — practicing networking, databases, and containers, and deploying web apps to the cloud on Cloudflare, Vercel, Azure, and AWS.

The biggest upgrade came in the form of agentic development. During my first internship, I was introduced to the agentic dev workflow and became a regular user of OpenCode, the FOSS agentic environment. It's been a breeze to use, and it's now my primary mode of development.

Currently:

Working with TypeScript, Node.js, SQL, PostgreSQL, Mysql, Cloudflare, Docker, Kubernetes, building real-time systems, distributed systems, database intensive apps, and remote AI agentic harnesses.
