Summary

Fixes the rust-lint:embed-offline-examples lane (node scripts/run-embed-examples.mjs --profile dev). Once the compile errors from #8333 and #8350 are out of the way, two examples still fail.

1. linux_fleet: stale example. It runs with default features disabled and failed on its first turn:

Error: openhuman.inference_agent_chat: transcript persistence failed: unavailable: session stores unavailable: open the default storage for /tmp/openhuman-harness-…/workspace
  • An Ephemeral workspace keeps session state in the workspace's default store, sqlite: (storage::config::default_url).
  • With --no-default-features, no storage driver is compiled.
  • The core refuses to fall back to memory on purpose (storage::sessions::workspace::fallback_provider: "Session state never silently moves to an in-memory backend").

So the runtime is behaving as designed, and the fix is on the example side. Its header now declares Feature: storage-sqlite, so the runner builds it with --no-default-features --features storage-sqlite. The generated cookbook and examples index, and the performance guide's reproduce command, name the feature too.

Note: the 2026-10-10 fleet measurements in performance.md predate the SQLite-backed session store, so a fresh run will include SQLite's footprint.

2. storage: E0599 no method driver on Arc<dyn StorageBackend> (examples/storage.rs:30, 76).

  • StorageBackend no longer has driver().
  • The SQLite half already asserts the driver via runtime.capabilities().storage.driver, so I dropped the duplicate assertion.
  • The live-MongoDB check uses the same capability report.
  • The embedded copy in storage-drivers.md is updated to match.

3. profiles: stale example. It failed with profile lease has no atomic storage condition; refusing unguarded handles.

4. mcp: stale example. The model fixture's "remote tools were listed successfully" assertion failed.

The generated docs (cookbook, examples index, llms-full.txt) carry each header change, hand-mirrored from the generator's template.

telegram also fails in the same lane. That one is still being diagnosed and is not in this PR.

Test plan

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Examples
    • Updated the Linux fleet, MCP, and SaaS profiles examples to use SQLite storage. The MCP example now uses its linked module in offline mode.
  • Documentation
    • Updated embed guides and example instructions with the required SQLite storage feature and build commands.
    • Updated storage-driver examples to check storage availability and reported driver capabilities.
    • Clarified that current Linux fleet measurements using SQLite-backed session state are not comparable to the existing benchmark table until measurements are rerun.

An Ephemeral workspace keeps its session state in the workspace's default
store, which is SQLite, and the core refuses to fall back to memory
(storage::sessions: "session state never silently moves to an in-memory
backend"). linux_fleet builds with default features disabled and never asked
for a driver, so its first turn failed with "session stores unavailable:
open the default storage" and embed-offline-examples exited 1. The example
now declares storage-sqlite; the cookbook, examples index and the performance
guide's build command name it too.
…apabilities

StorageBackend no longer has driver(), so examples/storage.rs failed to build
(E0599 at lines 30 and 76) and the embed-offline-examples lane exited 101.
The SQLite half already asserts the driver through
runtime.capabilities().storage.driver, so its duplicate assertion goes; the
live MongoDB check uses the same capability report. The embedded copy in the
storage-drivers guide is updated to match.

Completeness: Complete
Test assessment: No supported feature-to-test mapping was available; this does not mean tests are absent or passed.

What changed

The example runner now splits a comma-separated `Feature:` header into separate features instead of treating it as one string. `linux_fleet` declares `storage-sqlite` so it builds with a compiled driver under `--no-default-features`, matching the runtime's refusal to fall back to in-memory session storage. The `storage` example drops the removed `driver()` assertion on the configured SQLite backend and verifies the live MongoDB driver through `capabilities().storage.driver` instead. `profiles` configures a SQLite `storage_url` and declares `channels,storage-sqlite` so fenced cron leases get the atomic write condition they require. `mcp` registers tinymcp as a linked module with downloads disabled and a `Linked` source override, declaring `mcp,storage-sqlite`. The runner tests assert the exact `--features` values. The performance guide pins the existing fleet figures to commit `b783b39e78` with the original feature graph and states that current SQLite-backed builds are not comparable until the benchmark is rerun. The examples index, cookbook, storage-drivers integration page, and `llms-full.txt` are updated to match. Separately, `channel_agents.rs` narrows its compile gate to require both `channels` and `storage-sqlite`.

Features

  • Modified — Example runner parses comma-separated feature headers: Examples can declare multiple features in one `Feature:` header and the runner passes them to the build instead of a single combined string. (scripts/run-embed-examples.mjs export function discoverExamples(directory = resolve(root, "crates/openhuman-emb)
  • Modified — linux_fleet example declares storage-sqlite: The example now builds with a compiled storage driver, so it can run with default features disabled instead of failing on its first turn when session persistence finds no driver. (crates/openhuman-embed/examples/linux_fleet.rs, crates/openhuman-embed/examples/README.md, docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/cookbook.md Run: `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example lean_headless`)
  • Modified — storage example verifies drivers via runtime capabilities: Removes the call to the deleted `StorageBackend::driver()` method, fixing the compile error, and checks the SQLite path through `Runtime::storage()` plus the live MongoDB path through the capability report; the embedded copy in the docs is updated to match. (crates/openhuman-embed/examples/storage.rs async fn run() -> anyhow::Result<()> {, docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/integrations/storage-drivers.md Run `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example storage --features storage-sqlite`., docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/integrations/storage-drivers.md The SQLite example sets `config.storage.url` to a `sqlite:` URL under a temporar, llms-full.txt The SQLite example sets `config.storage.url` to a `sqlite:` URL under a temporar)
  • Modified — profiles example uses a SQLite storage URL: A storage-backed profile host supplies the atomic write condition fenced cron leases require, so the example no longer fails on file-backed leases; it declares `channels,storage-sqlite` so the runner compiles the driver. (crates/openhuman-embed/examples/README.md, docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/cookbook.md Run: `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example memory`, llms-full.txt Run: `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example memory`)
  • Modified — mcp example links the tinymcp module offline: MCP runs in the tinymcp module, so the example registers it as a linked module with downloads disabled and a `Linked` source override, and declares `mcp,storage-sqlite` for the module's state, instead of relying on an on-disk download in an offline run. (crates/openhuman-embed/examples/mcp.rs fn main() -> anyhow::Result<()> {, llms-full.txt Run: `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example lean_headless`)
  • Modified — channel_agents test requires storage-sqlite: The compile gate now requires both `channels` and `storage-sqlite`, because an agent turn persists its transcript to the ephemeral workspace's default SQLite store. (crates/openhuman-embed/tests/channel_agents.rs)
  • Modified — performance guide pins benchmark commit and current-tree feature: Existing fleet figures are attributed to commit `b783b39e78` with the original feature graph, and the guide states that current builds need `storage-sqlite` and are not comparable with the table until the benchmark is rerun. (docs/gitbooks/en/developing/performance.md systemd-run --user --scope -p MemoryMax=2G -p MemorySwapMax=0 -p CPUQuota=200% -, docs/gitbooks/en/developing/performance.md This does not establish capacity for real providers, tool subprocesses, MCP)
  • Modified — Generated docs mirrored for new feature declarations: The examples index, cookbook, and `llms-full.txt` carry the updated feature annotations, run commands, and corrected `storage` driver assertions, keeping the hand-mirrored generated copies consistent with the example sources. (crates/openhuman-embed/examples/README.md, docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/cookbook.md Run: `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example lean_headless`, llms-full.txt The compiled capability report describes this build:, llms-full.txt Run `cargo run -p openhuman-embed --example storage --features storage-sqlite`.)

security

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Positive: The security lane was answered with no findings, describing the change as relaxing an offline example assertion to use the capability report with no new input, network, or subprocess behaviour.
  • Lane summary: The change relaxes an assertion in the offline MongoDB example branch to check the runtime's reported storage driver via capabilities() instead of the concrete StorageHandle, which matches how the SQLite path already asserts and introduces no new input, network, or subprocess behaviour. Nothing security-relevant is introduced. 2 files were not security-reviewed: docs/gitbooks/en/developing/embed/integrations/storage-drivers.md (prose or tabular data), llms-full.txt (prose or tabular data). _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `a33a4fd75023`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

tests

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Lane summary: This revision drops the SQLite driver assertion on the configured backend in `storage.rs` and replaces the MongoDB live-path driver assertion with a capability-report check. That weakening is behind an offline-guarded example; the MongoDB branch is unreachable without an explicit `OPENHUMAN_EXAMPLE_MONGODB_URL`, and the capability report is the more end-to-end assertion anyway. I found no reportable defect. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `a33a4fd75023`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

description

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Positive: The description lane was answered with no findings, confirming the replacement APIs exist and the edits are consistent across `storage.rs`, the storage-drivers page, and `llms-full.txt`.
  • Lane summary: This increment drops the removed `StorageBackend::driver()` call from the storage example, replaces the live MongoDB driver assertion with the runtime's capability report, and mirrors both changes into the generated docs. The replacements match the APIs that exist (`Runtime::storage()` and `Runtime::capabilities().storage.driver`), and the edits are consistent across `storage.rs`, `storage-drivers.md` and `llms-full.txt`. Nothing here is a defect. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `a33a4fd75023`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

…ll.txt

llms-full.txt aggregates the generated embed docs, so the cookbook, examples
index and storage-drivers edits appear there too.
A file-backed profile host has no atomic storage condition on its leases, and
the fenced cron store refuses unguarded handles, so ProfileRuntime::open
failed with "profile lease has no atomic storage condition". The example
now configures a SQLite storage URL, the supported SaaS shape, and declares
storage-sqlite alongside channels; the cookbook, examples index and
llms-full.txt name both features.
MCP tools now run in the tinymcp module (openhuman#8280), so a runtime that
never loads the module answers mcp_list_tools with "TinyMCP module is
unavailable" and the example's model fixture panicked on the missing
forecast tool. The example now links the module the way the mcp_module test
does (register_linked, a Linked source override, no download) and declares
storage-sqlite for the module's state; the generated docs name the feature.

…eep the measured recipe

An example's Feature header may now name several features (comma-separated);
the runner splits them, so mcp, profiles and linux_fleet get exactly what they
declare, and the fleet-invocation tests assert linux_fleet's minimal feature
graph is storage-sqlite alone. performance.md keeps the 2026-10-10 figures'
recipe pinned to b783b39, and gives the current SQLite-backed build
separately as not comparable until the benchmark is rerun.
A channels-only build has no storage driver, so the bound agent's turn failed
with "session stores unavailable: open the default storage" and no reply was
sent. The test now compiles with channels and storage-sqlite, which the
product feature set (and so the rust-cov lane) enables.
