Summary

  • Add atomic edit and lane-move operations for pending RunQueue items.
  • Add durable addressed-input admission through an optional RunInboxStore port.
  • Validate persisted recipient lineage and commit input, deduplication identity,
event sequence and queued receipt in one checked storage batch.
  • Preserve current storage-port and import APIs. Declare the new collection at
its initial version, and gate a Unix-only SDK test import on Unix.

API or behavior changes

edit_first_where and move_first_where return false when a queued item has
already been consumed. Other pending items keep their order. Moving an item to
the steering lane requests its next safe delivery boundary.

RunInboxStore::enqueue_input addresses an exact run under a root conversation.
Retries with identical submission content return the original receipt; reuse
with different content fails. pending_inputs preserves admission order.

The receipt means durably queued. Recipient consumption, delivery
acknowledgement, worker continuation and shared budgets are follow-on work.

Tests

Verified on upstream main 8dd8f3ffd584cfd8bb2ecbce8526e85e75dad5b2 plus this branch:

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check — passed.
  • cargo test -p tinyagents-session --lib run_ledger::drivers:: -- --test-threads=1
    — 72 passed, including duplicate admission, handle recreation, concurrent
admission, order, root isolation and invalid lineage.
  • cargo test -p tinyagents-harness --lib run_queue:: -- --test-threads=1
    — 26 passed.
  • cargo clippy -p tinyagents-session -p tinyagents-harness --all-targets -- -D warnings
    — passed.

Documentation

Updated the queue README and command-center README; the new public port and
types document their admission and delivery boundaries.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added durable input queueing for a specific run, with recipient-lineage checks, ordered retrieval, and paginated results.
    • Repeated submissions with matching content return the original receipt; conflicting content is rejected.
    • Added the ability to edit or move the first matching pending queue item.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified queue ordering and editing and movement behavior, plus durable input limits and validation. Queued input is not automatically delivered and does not start workers.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request adds methods to edit and move pending queue items. It also adds a public addressed-input inbox contract and a ledger-backed implementation with lineage validation, deduplication, atomic admission, and ordered pending reads. A test module is now gated to Unix.

Changes: Run queue operations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Edit and move pending queue items
crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/mod.rs, crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/README.md, crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/mod_tests.rs
RunQueue adds edit_first_where and move_first_where. Both search lanes in delivery order under the queue lock. The documentation describes callback constraints and move behavior. Tests cover matching, ordering, and missing items.

Durable addressed input inbox

crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/events.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/inbox.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/mod.rs
The driver validates input and recipient lineage. It deduplicates matching submissions, atomically records new inputs with input_queued events, and reads pending inputs in sequence order.
Inbox tests and capability documentation
crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/inbox_tests.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/command_center/README.md
Tests cover duplicate and concurrent admissions, ordering, and invalid lineage or input. The README documents the capability and states that delivery and worker launch are not implemented.

Features

  • Added — Atomic queue edit primitive `RunQueue::edit_first_where`: Lets a host mutate the first pending item matching a predicate in place, atomically with respect to delivery, removal, and other queue mutations, returning false once the item has been consumed; the edit callback runs under the queue lock and replacement payload validation remains the host's responsibility. (crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/mod.rs impl<T> RunQueue<T> {)
  • Added — Atomic queue relocation primitive `RunQueue::move_first_where`: Relocates the first matching pending item to a destination lane and index, with the index addressing the destination after removal and clamping to its length; moving a follow-up to the steer lane only requests the next safe boundary and never interrupts a tool batch, and other items keep relative order. (crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/mod.rs impl<T> RunQueue<T> {, crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/README.md stops, pauses, and deferrals leave the queue untouched. Details:)
  • Added — Durable addressed-input admission port `RunInboxStore`: Introduces `enqueue_input` and `pending_inputs` over `AddressedInput`/`QueuedInput` with `InputMode` (Steer, FollowUp, Answer); a receipt means durably queued only, and the port deliberately exposes no ledger-only delivered mutation, so recipients must commit input to their own durable session before acknowledging delivery. (crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/inbox.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/mod.rs pub mod drivers;)
  • Modified — Exclusive sequence cursor for `pending_inputs` paging: `pending_inputs` gains an optional exclusive `after_sequence` cursor so callers page through queued input by passing the last receipt's sequence; pages are returned in ascending sequence order, the limit is clamped to 1..=500, and every page (including empty ones) re-validates the recipient's persisted root lineage without consuming or acknowledging input. (crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/inbox.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/inbox.rs)
  • Added — `DriverRunLedger` implementation of inbox admission with lineage fencing: `enqueue_input` validates identities and nonblank, size-bounded text, walks parent_run_id links back to the declared root (rejecting cycles, missing runs, other roots, and lineages over 128 runs), then commits the stored input, dedup identity, and `input_queued` event in one checked batch; reusing a submission id with different content is a conflict rather than another delivery. (crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/inbox.rs, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/events.rs pub(super) fn head_after(highest: u64) -> Option<u64> {)
  • Added — New `ledger.inputs` collection declared at initial schema version: Registers the `ledger.inputs` collection with a unique recipient/sequence index and a root index, and assigns it schema version 1 rather than the ledger's current version because there is no legacy v1 envelope to migrate; the collection name is also asserted in the schema test expectations. (crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/schema.rs pub fn ledger_storage_schema() -> Schema {, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/storage.rs pub(super) fn eq_nonblank(filter: Filter, field: &str, value: Option<&str>) -> F, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/schema_tests.rs fn the_schemas_name_what_each_owner_declares() {)
  • Internal refactor — Widened visibility of event commit helpers: `EventCommit` and `DriverRunLedger::event_commit` become `pub(super)` with a doc comment so the new inbox driver can prepare an event and head update for the caller's atomic document batch. (crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/events.rs pub(super) fn head_after(highest: u64) -> Option<u64> {, crates/tinyagents-session/src/run_ledger/drivers/mod.rs mod events;)
  • Modified — Unix gating of a Claude Agent SDK test import: Gates the `ToolCall` import in the harness SDK tests behind `#[cfg(unix)]`, avoiding a non-Unix build break; the diff also revises the queue module's doc comments and lock documentation to describe non-rolled-back editing callbacks. (crates/tinyagents-harness/src/providers/claude_agent_sdk/mod_tests.rs, crates/tinyagents-harness/src/run_queue/mod.rs pub struct RunQueue<T> {)

tests

  • Conclusion: Success
  • Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
  • Positive: The tests lane is Answered and reports no reportable defect, noting that both feature areas are covered by tests asserting on observable behavior (queue snapshots, duplicate receipts, page boundaries, cyclic/cross-root lineage rejection), that the schema version split for `ledger.inputs` is deliberate and correct, and that the `#[cfg(unix)]` gating lives in a test file and only narrows where an existing test compiles.
  • Lane summary: This revision adds `RunQueue::edit_first_where`/`move_first_where` with focused tests, and a new durable `RunInboxStore` (atomic admission, lineage fencing, paging) with driver and unit tests; both feature areas are covered by tests that assert on real observable behaviour (queue snapshots, duplicate receipts, page boundaries, cyclic/cross-root lineage rejection), and the schema version split for `ledger.inputs` is deliberate and correct — a separate new collection with no v1 envelope. The `#[cfg(unix)]` gating added to `mod_tests.rs` is inside a test file, so it only narrows where an existing test compiles and does not violate the sibling-test-module rule. I found no reportable defect in these commits. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `f4e620d663ad`), so retrieved context may be out of date._
